IMAWA Activity Summary
From 11th August 2007 to 5th October 2009


1. Establishment and Incorporation
On the occasion of Eid Mabath (11/08/2007) a proposal inviting Iranians residing in Perth to participate has been published on the website of “Iranians of Western Australia” and emailed to people. Two weeks later on 26/08/07 the establishment assembly has been held and the formation of the association has been announced. IMAWA officially has been incorporated on 12/12/07. IMAWA has been recognised by the government of Western Australia State as the only legal, registered and operative community based association of Iranians and as representative of Iranians in Western Australia.

2. Council Meetings
Fifteen council meetings and one AGM have been held from Aug 2007 to 5th Oct 2009. The 2nd AGM of IMAWA is planned and will be hold on the 10th Oct 2009.

3. Website
The first revision of the website has been launched on August 2007 and heavily changed later on 8th January 2008. From 1st July 2008 until the 30th June 2009, the website has been kept up-to-date by posting IMAWA News and Events, as well as time to time posting free stuff to its classified page. Development of a new website is required and would be planed to be done in near future.

4. Events
The total of 36 Events/Gatherings including Islamic Eids, Majalis and events, Social gatherings, Iranian national celebrations (ie. Eid NoRuz), poetry night, movie night & live music have been held.

5. Discount Program
An agreement with Shop Rite for production of IMAWA membership cards incorporating Shop Rite has been finalised on 05/02/2008. The program delivers a wide variety of discounts to IMAWA members.

6. Distribution of Free Quran and Books
From 12/07/2008 to 23/09/2009, the total of 819 items including 168 Calendars, 308 Books, 14 Posters, 17 CDs & DVDs and 312 Quran, are distributed among IMAWA members, guest of IMAWA events and other communities in Perth.

7. Farsi Learning Courses
Starting from July 2009 the Farsi reading/writing courses for children is operational and rapidly growing. Holding Farsi classes for toddlers and adults is also planned and would be formed from the first school term of 2010.

8. Financial Issues
IMAWA is an independent organisation and stands on its own feet, financially and otherwise. IMAWA does not have any source of income, do not take any help from any government or organisaion and do not seek any sponsor to fund its operations. IMAWA funds itself from members and attendances. IMAWA’s Farsi courses (at the moment) covers its cost. However it is expected to grow, so that will soon reach to the point that turns to an income for the association and covers the cost of IMAWA operations.
